The practice of architecture is universal, but practicing it is a lifelong commitment to creating a better, healthier, and safer world for all. And this takes time—something many prefer to overlook because the journey is demanding: sleepless nights, frustrations, and dreams that sometimes remain unfulfilled.
I believe in architecture because we are spatial actors, and our lives are shaped by this environment we call architecture, urbanism, and, in a broader sense, design. Undoubtedly, the contemporary human experience unfolds in a hybrid world that still requires space, making architects key players in shaping this new reality.
I have embarked on a new path in both my personal and professional life, facing the challenge of establishing my experience in a country where the title of architect is built upon centuries of tradition and mastery. Today, I have the opportunity to take on this responsibility, and I am in the process of obtaining my professional license.
It is not an easy path. In the United States, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) regulates the profession through rigorous standards for licensure and certification. Eight months ago, I started my NCARB record. I have now completed the education validation and certification phase, made significant progress in the experience certification, and am preparing for the examination process.
The exam consists of six different areas, all of which I must pass. I have committed myself to studying rigorously and systematically, pushing my knowledge and skills to the highest level. I love being an architect, I love the values that define our profession, and I love the vast scope of our practice. This career has given me the opportunity to fully embrace who I am.
I am an architect, and within that identity, I find the freedom to explore my creativity in many forms. At the same time, I exercise my rationality in a profession that demands precision and objectivity. But I don’t feel the need to choose between being one thing or another. I inhabit this hybrid universe with enthusiasm, embracing every possibility it offers.
A Journey of Learning and Passion
Architecture is not just about building spaces—it is also about building ourselves in the process. Every step along this path, no matter how challenging, is an opportunity to grow, to contribute, and to reaffirm that I have chosen the right profession. Because being an architect is not just a career; it is a way of being in the world.
